Annual General Merriment!

This year's AGM proved to be yet another enjoyable evening of community, smiles, and singing – as well as celebrating the phenomenal success of our recent production, Green Day's American Idiot, whilst looking ahead to Chitty... and beyond!

Oh, and some formal stuff got done too... Most significantly, this year's prestigious Martin Steele Award went to Cat Nicol for the tireless devotion she showed as our Assistant Stage Manager for American Idiot, ensuring the production began and ran smoothly every single night.

There was much praise for AI director Megan Stickler-Sell, too, for encouraging the 2018 committee to take a gamble leaving their comfort zone for our most recent spring production. It was a gamble that paid off: American Idiot was our first show to near-enough break even for almost a decade!

Not that we commiserated over past productions, though. As treasurer Andrew Taylor recalled, to a room full of sagely nodding heads, "We make money to put on great shows – we don't put on shows to make great money."

Make money we still did, though, thanks largely again to our successful costume hire operation. Great gratitude was shown to Carol Bye for her continued diligent efforts on that front, along with her administrator Pippa Taylor.

Fond farewells were made to outgoing committee members Chip Colquhoun and Laura Roberts – the latter of whom has served on our committee since 2008! So Laura will be especially missed – but it will be worth it to welcome a new Roberts into the world.

Shortly after this, Lucy Rycroft-Smith became our newly elected general member, and stood alongside the re-elects: chair Madeline Harmer, treasurer Andrew Taylor, secretary Jo Grantham, publicity officer Megan Stickler-Sell, social secretary Emma Harpley, and general member Tom Greenhalgh. Congratulations – and good luck – to all of them as they take the Pied Pipers into it's 69th year!

The evening culminated in a singsong: our traditional rendition of "Happy Birthday" to anyone with an imminent solar return – on this occasion, former Martin Steele recipient Jan Brown.

We look forward to seeing many more of you again soon for our upcoming members events – including our "Chitnic" fundraiser for Chitty on 28th July! Save the date and stay tuned for more details...
